Style can be an essential component of everyday life that represents and even defines who we are. It can be as simple as finding what’s comfortable, practical, and easy. It is how we choose to present ourselves to the world and the way we communicate our personal traits. We wanted to get down to the bottom of the closet and discover what others have to say about style. We asked 29 students how they define fashion and why they wear what they do.

What does fashion mean to you?

  • “Fashion is the collective apparel of kids these days.”
  • “Trendy items mixed in with individual style.”
  • “Comfort. Colour. Style. Texture. Function.”
  • “It is an expression of our identities for the world to see.”
  • “Anything that suits you well, anything simple, elegant, and you’re comfortable in.”
  • “It’s a way for me to express myself and show the world a small glimpse of who I am.”
  • “It means stress to look good all the time.”

What does your style say about you?

  • “Either I like vintage clothes or I’m just plain cheap. (People might think) I’m stuck in the ‘80s, or recently paroled... maybe it’s better if I don’t think about it too much.”
  • “My style says that I am an intelligent person who cares what I look like but doesn’t spend excessive amounts of time doing so.”
  • “Cute, classy, stylish, comfortable, fun, ME!”
  • “You can probably assume that I’m an ‘art kid’ by looking at me.”
  • “Mainly, I dress label free and like to represent myself in a modest, yet edgy, independent and unique way.”
  • “It shows that I make choices about clothes with the knowledge of current trends while combining more classic or retro styles.”
